Research Projects

This page highlights a selected set of research projects that are currently hosted on MyGeoHub.

GLASS

This project employs a Global-Local-Global systems approach to study interactions of global drivers and local stresses and responses in the effort of addressing the UN Global Sustainable Development Goals on a changing planet with limited land and water resources. The project is developing open source modeling tools to facilitate impact and tradeoff analysis, and disseminating data-driven policy briefs to engage the broader community.

Water HUB

Water HUB is an open platform for connecting hydrologists through sharing of hydrologic information, data, models and simulation tools, connecting researchers and students to high-performance computation and data resources, and connecting science and people through shared knowledge and decision making tools and information.

Useful to Usable (U2U)

Transforming Climate Variability and Change Information for Cereal Crop Producers, is an integrated research and extension project working to improve farm resilience and profitability in the North Central Region by transforming existing climate information into usable knowledge for the agricultural community.

GABBs - Geospatial Modeling and Data Analysis Building blocks

A National Science Foundation funded Data Infrastructure Building Blocks (DIBBS) project to integrate geospatial modeling and data analysis capabilities into the HUBzero software stack. This project will extend HUBzero’s data capabilities and Rappture toolkit to support geo-reference datasets, maps, raster images, and so on, and make it easy for non-experts to easily share geospatial data and create and deploy interactive geospatial applications on the web.

Cyber Training for FAIR Science

The project aims at developing a new generation of researchers who will make their science openly available and transparently reproducible by using the best practices in Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable (FAIR) science. This project brings cyber-enabled state-of-the-art computational tools into practice by training students and working professionals through courses, workshops and boot camps at multiple institutions, including Purdue University, University of New Hampshire and University of Alabama.

PIOT Hub

This research aims at developing a "Process to PIOT (P2P)" approach that integrates process engineering based models with an Input-Output framework for generating PIOTs (Physical Input-Output Tables) for a regional economy. This research will result in an open-source collaborative platform for developing PIOTs on a regional scale (PIOTHub) using the HUBzero platform. The collaborative platform will allow multiple researchers to develop PIOTs for many regions and enhance collaboration to solve sustainable resource and consumption challenges. This project is a collaboration of researchers at Purdue University and LANL.

driNET

driNET is a research environment for collecting and disseminating local to regional scale drought information from several sources including the drought monitor, precipitation, soil moisture and more. The site also provides access to models such as the HMM (probabilistic method) Analysis tool and the Drought Impact Viewer. This project is a collaboration of researchers from multiple disciplines (earth and atmospheric sciences, agronomy, hydrology, and computer science).
